Long Beach Fire Department responded to a 2nd alarm house fire Sunday, damaging a two-story home near Virginia Country Club in Long Beach, authorities said.

The fire was reported at 10:22pm in the 4200 block of Country Club Drive. Smoke detectors alerted the family of four and they were able to escape before firefighters arrived, said Brian Fisk LBFD spokesman.

First arriving units reported heavy fire and smoke showing through the roof of the large, two-story home. A 2nd Alarm assignment was called for additional resources and manpower.

The body of fire was primarily confined to the attic and was extinguished after an aggressive 50 minute fire attack. Extensive salvage and overhaul operations were initiated and the family was displaced given the extensive damage to the structure.

Fire investigators were called to the scene to investigate the origin of the fire and it remains under investigation.
