Authorities Identified Man Killed In Long Beach Shooting

On Thursday LBPD officers were dispatched to the 1900 block of Myrtle regarding a shooting that just occurred around 2:30pm.

Upon arrival officers found a male adult in a vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds to the upper torso. He was subsequently transported by LB Fire to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

The officers investigation determined the shooting occurred in 900 block Dayman and the victim drove to the 1900 block of Myrtle where he ended up crashing into a parked vehicle.

Further investigation led officers to a residence in the 900 block of Dayman as a possible location of interest. Officers surrounded the location and made attempts to call anyone who was inside to exit but there was no response. The Long Beach PD SWAT Team was then activated, and the incident was handled as a possible barricade situation.

SWAT eventually deployed tear gas into the resident, and shortly thereafter a female adult subject exited, and was detained. No other occupants were found in the house. The female was then interviewed by detectives and released.

The victim has been identified as Joseph Patton Jr. a 24 year-old resident of Torrance.

The incident is being investigated as possibly gang related.

No description of the suspect that was able to evade police.
