The 30th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade and Celebration This Weekend
The 30th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Parade and Celebration is scheduled for Saturday, January 13th, 2018. This year’s theme is “Standing on the Shoulders of Giants.” The parade kicks off at 10:30am at the intersection of Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue and Anaheim Street.
The 6th District is excited to announce that Dr. Reagan Romali, Superintendent-President of the Long Beach Community College District, will be serving as a Grand Marshal. She joins John Barnett Rambo, Peter Kong, Chris Fontayne Herron, Mr. Baker, and Stephen Harris.
The parade line-up features 80 entries and the celebration over 30 food trucks, merchandise, and information vendors. Entertainment will be headlined by classic Long Beach band Kiddo and include musical, drum, and dance performances.
Thousands of people will gather to honor the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with a free celebratory afternoon of music featuring the powerful work of artists whose vision coincides with King’s voice for justice, peace and civil rights.
The celebration follows from 12:00pm to 6:00pm, at Martin Luther King Jr. Park, located at 1950 Lemon Avenue, Long Beach.
Free parking will be available at Long Beach City College Pacific Coast Campus on Orange Avenue and 19th Street.
Volunteers are still being accepted for parade route monitoring, celebration set-up assistance, and after-hours clean-up.
