Mismanagement sinks $23 Million on phantom repairs for Queen Mary

Long Beach, CA – Long Beach City Auditor Laura Doud today released her Queen Mary Report to verify that Urban Commons, the previous leaseholder, and operator of the Queen Mary, used the $23 million as agreed upon to fund the 27 urgent and critical repair projects and to determine whether the City of Long Beach (City) provided sufficient oversight of the funds for these projects.

Long Beach Healthcare Workers Protest at St. Mary Hospital

Healthcare workers at St. Mary Medical Center in Long Beach were joined by Vice Mayor Rex Richardson to address accusations of unequal treatment and lack of protections for security officers at Dignity Health – St. Mary Hospital the morning of Thursday, May 13th. The protest came a day after Service Employees International Union-United Health Care Workers West (SEIU-UHW) filed a formal hazard complaint with Cal/OSHA related to the hospital’s handling of the novel coronavirus.
