Pedestrian Struck and Killed on Broadway and Orizaba Last Night
On Sunday, March 8, 2015, at 7:28 p.m., Long Beach Police responded to a traffic collision at Broadway and Orizaba Avenue which resulted in the death of an elderly female pedestrian.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a white 1997 Ford Explorer, driven by a 70-year-old Long Beach resident, was traveling westbound on Broadway when it struck a pedestrian at the intersection of Broadway and Orizaba Ave. The pedestrian, who was attempting to cross Broadway at Orizaba in an unmarked crosswalk from the north curb, was struck while in the westbound lanes of Broadway.
The driver of the vehicle immediately stopped his vehicle to check on the pedestrian, who was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries, and pronounced deceased a short time later.
The pedestrian has been identified as 88-year old Shirley Hyman of Seal Beach.
