Fatality at Spring Street and Claremore Avenue Yesterday
On Sunday, March 22, 2015, at 12:39 p.m., Long Beach Police responded to a traffic collision at Spring Street and Claremore Avenue, which resulted in the death of a female pedestrian.
Officers provided first aid to the female pedestrian who sustained major head and body trauma until Long Beach Fire Department’s paramedics arrived. The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital in critical condition and was pronounced deceased a short time later.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2010 Toyota Corolla, being driven by a 28-year-old resident of Stanton, was traveling eastbound Spring Street and struck the pedestrian at the intersection of Spring Street and Claremore Avenue. The pedestrian was walking southbound across Spring Street at Claremore Avenue outside of the crosswalk against a red light when struck.
The pedestrian has been identified as 88-year-old Beryl Jarrett of Long Beach.
The driver of the Toyota remained at the scene, was interviewed and released.
