City of Long Beach Launches LiveWellLongBeach.org: A Comprehensive Health Data Platform
Today, as part of the National Public Health Week celebration, the City of Long Beach launched LiveWellLongBeach.org, an interactive, web-based platform that provides data on over 100 demographic, health, and quality of life indicators specific to Long Beach. The platform also serves as a database of promising and evidence-based programs, scientific literature, and funding opportunities.
“LiveWellLongBeach.org is another example of our city using technology to provide free and open access to information,” said Mayor Robert Garcia. “The data serve as a means to track progress, benchmark Long Beach against other cities, and assist all of us to work together to ensure everyone in our city is healthy and well.”
LiveWellLongBeach.org features data comparisons by Long Beach zip codes and census tracts, and shows how Long Beach compares to Los Angeles County, the State of California, and Healthy People 2020 on key health and socioeconomic indicators. Healthy People 2020 is a national framework for prevention in the U.S. and provides a comprehensive set of key disease prevention and health promotion objectives.
“Healthcare partners, non-profits, and the private sector can use this site to understand the health issues facing our city. We are doing well on some health indicators, and we have an opportunity to work together as a united community in eliminating disparities that exist in Long Beach,” noted Kelly Colopy, Director of the Department of Health and Human Services.
The website provides visual references and brings data, local resources and a wealth of other information to one accessible, user-friendly location. It gives Long Beach residents and policy-makers up-to-date information to track progress toward building a healthier Long Beach. LiveWellLongBeach.org is continually updated with new data sets, mapping capability, and resources. The site is user-friendly and integrates publicly available health data in a central location.
LiveWellLongBeach.org is supported by the City of Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services with the hope that the site will spark long lasting collaborations and partnerships for improved health outcomes in Long Beach.
