Long Beach Police Officer Shot During Encounter with Suspect

A Long Beach police officer was shot and suffered non-life threatening injuries after an encounter with a suspect at an apartment complex Sunday. An investigation was underway.

Officers were called to the apartment complex at Artesia Boulevard and Orizaba Avenue shortly after 9 p.m. Upon arrival, a man opened fire on the officers, who returned fire. It was not immediately known how many officers shot at the suspect or how many shots were fired.

The suspect was reported in stable condition.

Several hours later, investigators could still be seen at scene of the two-story building.
