23-year-old California State University, Long Beach student was killed in the Paris terror attacks, the school announced Saturday.
Nohemi Gonzalez, an El Monte resident, was a senior studying industrial design. She was in Paris attending the Strate College of Design as part of a semester abroad program.
Nohemi was killed during the attacks in and around Paris Friday. She was at a restaurant with other students when she was wounded, Cal State Long Beach President Jane Close Conoley said in a press conference Saturday.
“She was a beautiful person, she would give the shirt off her back to help someone else,” Gonzalez’s aunt, Sandra Felt the aunt said. “She’s going to be greatly missed.”
During the press conference, Mayor Robert Garcia also said that the city was in mourning because Gonzalez was a loved member of the community.
Sixteen other Long Beach students who are also studying abroad in Paris are safe, Conoley said.
At least 129 people were killed and 352 injured in the attacks Friday night in Paris. The Islamic State group has claimed responsibility.
