LBPD Release Video: Person of Interest in Murder Investigation of Mother & Child
Long Beach Police have released surveillance video of a person of interest in the shooting murders of a mother and 4-year-old daughter in Long Beach. It is believed this individual may have left the area and/or the State of California.
The individual is described as a male African American in his 20’s or 30’s, Medium Height, 220-250 lbs. with facial hair. He was observed on video in a local business after the shooting occurred and then on a blue line train shortly after that. He boarded the train at 5th Street and Long Beach Bl. and rode it into Los Angeles. He then got off at the San Pedro Station located at Washington and San Pedro Street. On August 12, 2016, Mayor Robert Garcia announced that an agenda item will go before City Council on Tuesday, August 16, 2016, to recommend that a $20,000 reward be approved for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for the August 6, 2016 murder of 26-year-old Carina Mancera and her 4-year-old daughter Jennabel Anaya of Long Beach. Also, on Tuesday, August 16th, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, at the recommendation of Supervisor Don Knabe, will consider issuing a $20,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for these horrific murders, for a reward total of $40,000.
Detectives believe there were people in the area who may have witnessed the incident or have information and are strongly encouraging them to come forward. Callers can remain anonymous. On August 6, 2016, at approx. 10:20 p.m., officers were dispatched to a shooting in the area of 9th Street and Locust Avenue, which resulted in the death of a woman and her daughter.
When officers arrived, they located two females who had been struck by gunfire. The adult victim was pronounced deceased at the scene by Long Beach Fire Department personnel. The second victim, a 4-year-old girl, was transported to a local hospital in critical condition and was pronounced deceased early this morning.
The preliminary investigation determined the two victims and the child’s father had just arrived home, and were walking to their nearby residence where they lived together, when the shooting occurred. A motive for the shooting is unknown and no suspect information is available at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
The victims, who were mother and daughter, have been identified as 26-year-old Carina Mancera and 4-year-old Jennabel Anaya of Long Beach.
