Traffic Fatality Sunday Night

Long Beach, CA

On Sunday, May 14, 2017, at approx. 8:25 p.m., officers were dispatched to Studebaker Road south of Loynes Drive regarding an injury traffic collision involving a motorcycle, which resulted in the death of a male adult.

Upon arrival, officers located a male subject in the #1 southbound lane of Studebaker Road, south of Loynes Drive, and his motorcycle along the east curbline of northbound Studebaker Road, also south of Loynes Drive. Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived shortly thereafter and determined the victim deceased at the scene.

The preliminary investigation determined the motorcyclist, a 51-year old resident of Long Beach, was riding his 2006 Honda motorcycle northbound on Studebaker Road from Second Street, in the #1 lane, at a high rate of speed. For an unknown reason, the motorcycle came into contact with the raised center median, causing the rider to be thrown and ultimately collide with the Los Cerritos Channel bridge abutment. The motorcycle continued traveling northbound until coming to rest approx. 400 feet from the initial area of impact.

The motorcyclist is not being identified at this time, pending official notification to next of kin.
