Bomb squad investigating a suspicious device found after a police search warrant
Long Beach Police Detectives serving a search warrant on a residence with in the 1400 Block of Cherry Ave, discover a suspicious device prompting evacuations with a visit from the Sheriff’s Bomb Squad and ATF.
Authorities were out at a home connected to an ongoing investigation shortly before 4PM on Friday May 17th, when during a search, they located a device that they deemed suspicious near 14th and Cherry. They immediately backed out of the home and called in assistance from the LA County Sheriff’s Department, along with Agents from the Alcohol Tobacco &Firearms Bureau, and Long Beach Fire.
LBLN News Anchor Eric Richards was at the scene and spoke to a resident who said that this is a “good community with good people.” A small dog was removed from the residence by Animal Control. Long Beach PD said that a suspect was already in custody and the search warrant was connected to that individual, but could not comment any further.
At 6:30pm, the device was cleared and evacuations were lifted. 14th street was also reopened to traffic.
