Suspect of fatal deputy shooting charged with murder

A Man from Utah was charged Thursday in the fatal shooting deaths of two people. One victim was a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputy who was shot in the head while waiting for his order near the counter of a fast food restaurant in Alhambra.

Joseph Gilbert Solano was an off duty 13 year department veteran, that at 50 Years old died Wednesday at a hospital.

The suspect was identified as Rhett Mckenzie Nelson 30, of Utah.

The Long Beach police spotted him  before he took them into a short chase and apprehended him on a quiet neighborhood in Granada, Long Beach on Tuesday. He was charged with murder Thursday in the Solano slaying. He’s also being charged  for the slaying of Dmity Kolstov on June 10 in Downtown Los Angeles.

A vigil is set to take place tonight in honor of the deceased officer. Funeral arrangements are pending.
