Man Stabbed to Death near Homeless Encampment

On Saturday at 5:35 a.m., LBPD officers responded to an assist fire call at a residence in the 200 block of E. Artesia Blvd., which resulted in the death of a male adult.

Upon arrival, officers contacted an unresponsive adult male victim laying on the ground outside of a residence with multiple stab wounds to his upper torso. The victim was determined deceased at the scene by the Long Beach Fire Department.

The victim has been identified as Anthony Durr, a 41-year-old resident of Long Beach.

Evidence located during the preliminary investigation led officers to a homeless encampment on the eastside of Long Beach Blvd. near the 91 freeway, where evidence of a crime scene was located.

Through their preliminary investigation, Homicide Detectives believe the victim was walking in the homeless encampment when he and an adult male suspect engaged in a dispute which led to the stabbing. The victim then walked to the 200 block of E. Artesia Blvd. and collapsed outside of an unrelated residence.

The suspect fled the scene on foot in an unknown direction prior to officers’ arrival and is outstanding.

Based on the preliminary investigation, detectives believe this to be an isolated incident. The relationship between the victim and suspect, if any, is currently unknown. Detectives are actively working to gather additional information to further the investigation, which is ongoing.
