The suspect allegedly followed the ambulance to UCI Health–Los Alamitos Medical Center, where he fled on foot, prompting officers to establish a perimeter and activate SWAT. The hospital was placed on lockdown as officers confronted the shirtless suspect, who was armed with a machete. During the incident, an outside agency officer shot the suspect. No Long Beach police officers were involved in the shooting, and the Orange County District Attorney’s Office will investigate. Officers quickly located the vehicle and safely took one suspect into custody. A second suspect refused to surrender and barricaded himself inside the vehicle, prompting a response from the Long Beach Police Department’s SWAT team. After the standoff, SWAT officers took the second suspect into custody without further incident. Police recovered a firearm from the scene. The investigation remains ongoing. Later that evening, at approximately 7:40 p.m., officers responded to the 1000 block of Lewis Avenue following reports of a shooting. Investigators say a male juvenile suffered a gunshot wound to his lower body. Family members transported the victim to a local hospital, where he was reported to be in stable condition. Detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The night ended with a deadly traffic collision in the area of Loynes Drive and Studebaker Road. According to the preliminary investigation, a vehicle crossed over a median before plunging into the water beneath a bridge. A female passenger was rescued from the submerged vehicle, while the male driver was pulled from the water and transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries. According to the preliminary investigation, two male suspects fired multiple shots toward the victim before fleeing the area. No arrests have been announced, and investigators are still working to determine the motive and identify the suspects. Earlier in the evening, at approximately 7:09 p.m., officers responded to the 3000 block of California Avenue for another reported shots call. Police contacted an adult male suspect in what is being investigated as a negligent discharge of a firearm. The suspect was treated by Long Beach Fire Department personnel and transported to a local hospital for medical clearance before being booked. Authorities have not released additional details, and the investigation remains ongoing.

The officer fired shots at the suspects, who fled the area. Detectives now believe three suspects were involved. All of the suspects fled the scene before officers arrived. The off-duty officer was not injured. The investigation remains ongoing, and no additional information has been released.

Fireworks barges will be near the Queen Mary, Junipero Beach (Cherry Avenue) and Granada Beach (Bay Shore Avenue). The displays are expected to be visible from much of the shoreline. Popular free viewing locations include Bixby Park, Bluff Park, Shoreline Aquatic Park, Junipero Beach, Granada Beach and the area near Rosie’s Dog Beach. Spectators are encouraged to arrive early and bring chairs or blankets. For a premium experience, the Queen Mary will host its annual Fourth of July celebration from 3 to 10 p.m. aboard the historic ship at 1126 Queens Highway. General admission is $75 for adults, $45 for children, and VIP admission is $225. Christina Rodriguez, M.D., Medical Director of Advanced Cardiac Imaging, is a fellowship-trained, board-certified non-invasive cardiologist and one of only two physicians in the Southern Los Angeles and Orange County region specializing in advanced cardiac imaging. Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) uses powerful magnets and radio waves to create detailed images of the heart without ionizing radiation. During the exam, patients lie on a table that moves into the MRI scanner while images are taken of the heart's structure, function and blood flow. Cardiac MRI can detect heart muscle damage, valve disease, inflammation, congenital heart defects and early signs of coronary artery disease that may not be visible with other imaging tests. "There are so many different minimally invasive and noninvasive ways to look into the heart," said Dr. Rodriguez. "I plan to continue bringing new advanced technologies and services to our program to help patients with advanced heart conditions." Dr. Rodriguez is also focused on advancing women's heart health. Heart disease is the leading cause of death among women, and symptoms are often different than in men. Women are also more likely to develop microvascular dysfunction, a disease affecting the heart's smallest blood vessels that can be difficult to diagnose. "With the introduction of stress cardiac MRI at Long Beach Medical Center, we will better understand how microvascular dysfunction affects women, it is one of our main focuses in our Women's Heart Center," Dr. Rodriguez said. According to the Long Beach Fire Department, firefighters, including Urban Search & Rescue (US&R) Task Force 6, were dispatched to the scene at approximately 1:50 p.m. Three people sustained injuries and were transported to local hospitals. Authorities said all injuries were considered non-life-threatening. Fire crews remained on scene working to safely remove the vehicle from the structure and stabilize the damaged residence. According to investigators, the theft occurred on June 5, 2026, at approximately 2:49 a.m. Surveillance footage shows two suspects approaching a cage located outside a residence. The suspects allegedly opened the cage, removed a Yellow-Naped Amazon Parrot, and fled northbound on Cortner Avenue on foot before reportedly entering a black sedan. Police described the suspects as: • Suspect #1: Male, wearing a blue hoodie, jeans, and white shoes. • Suspect #2: Male, wearing dark clothing and dark-colored shoes. The vehicle involved is described as a black sedan. According to the Long Beach Police Department, officers were dispatched at about 6:51 p.m. Thursday and arrived within five minutes of the initial call. Upon arrival, officers immediately began dispersing the crowd. During the gathering, a fight broke out near Ocean Boulevard and Termino Avenue, resulting in several juveniles being detained. Police maintained a presence in the area throughout the evening as some members of the crowd remained despite repeated announcements regarding the city’s curfew laws. By 9:45 p.m., officers cited five juveniles for curfew violations and transported them to their guardians. “We encourage everyone to enjoy the permitted events taking place in our city,” said Long Beach Police Chief Wally Hebeish. “Large-scale disturbances like this deplete our resources and divert our officers from addressing other safety concerns in Long Beach, including emergency responses.” Chief Hebeish added that the department will maintain an enhanced police presence throughout the weekend and warned that violent behavior and law violations will not be tolerated. River Homeless Encampment Sends Smoke Across Long Beach Long Beach Fire battled a large trash and brush fire in Long Beach Monday morning that sent thick black smoke into the sky, visible for miles across the area. The fire was reported around 9:40 a.m. along the Los Angeles River between Pacific Coast Highway and Anaheim Street. The fire started near a large homeless encampment along the river, where several fires have been reported in recent weeks. Crews requested foam to help extinguish the flames. The California Highway Patrol closed the PCH off-ramp from the northbound 710 Freeway while firefighters worked to contain the fire. No injuries were immediately reported.
