CANstruction® Long Beach 2020 Competition Announces Official Call for Entries
Calling all Long Beach area architectural, engineering, contractor and design firms! For the 7th consecutive year, the team at terri henry marketing is organizing the annual CANstruction Long Beach event to benefit Food Finders food rescue organization. Typically scheduled for Fall, the 2020 event has been moved up to late May to coincide with Long Beach Architecture Week presented by Long Beach Home + Living Magazine. The build day will take place on Thursday, May 28th beginning at 8am.
CANstruction® is a competition that seeks top designs and structures using canned goods and other non-perishable food items as building blocks. Teams are required to design and create 10’x 10’ x 10’H structures that exhibited to the public, judged, then dismantled and donated to approved agencies. The 2020 theme is “Don’t Let Hunger DragOn” and teams may depict Mythical Creatures in any way they choose.
The 2020 competition build site is still to be determined. Venues interested in hosting the event can find the requirements on the CANstruction Long Beach website under Sponsorship Opportunities.
The team entry fee is $395 and space is limited to six teams. Final call for entries is April 1, 2020. Teams are responsible for acquiring all canned food used in their structure. The official Call for Entries form can be found HERE.
Teams will have 12 hours to complete their structures. Judging will take place during the 10 days the structures are on display, and awards will be presented to the winning teams following the dismantling of the structures. The structures will be viewable to the public during the host venue’s regular business hours through June 7th. On Monday, June 8th, Food Finders volunteers will dismantle the structures and transport all canned food to Food Finders warehouse to prepare for distribution to agencies that service the food insecure in the Long Beach community.
“Since launching CANstruction in Long Beach in 2014, this event has resulted in an amazing 120,000 pounds of food donated to Food Finders”, said organizer Terri Henry. “This is an event that local firms can use as a great team building experience and will have lots of fun with. In addition to having fun, they will be helping our neighbors that face food insecurity on a daily basis here in Long Beach.”
