Man Fatally Struck by Vehicle in Long Beach
On Friday, January 31, 2020, at approximately 7:15 p.m., officers responded to an injury hit-and-run traffic collision at the intersection of Redondo Avenue and Hill Street involving a vehicle and pedestrian, that ultimately resulted in the death of a male adult.
Upon arrival, officers located a male adult pedestrian in the roadway having sustained major injuries to his upper and lower torso. Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived on scene, began administering medical aid and transported the pedestrian to a local hospital in critical condition. The pedestrian later succumbed to his injuries.
The preliminary investigation revealed a 2020 Ford Ranger, driven by a 49-year-old male resident of Long Beach, was traveling southbound on Redondo Avenue approaching Hill Street on a green light. The pedestrian was crossing Redondo Avenue at Hill Street against the red light when he was struck by the vehicle.
The driver returned to the scene and cooperated with the investigation. Cell phone distraction and/or DUI are not considered factors in this collision.
