Update: Hit-and-Run Traffic Fatality at Atlantic and Market
On Jan. 5, 2021 at approximately 8:05 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Atlantic Avenue and Market Street regarding an injury hit and run traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian, which resulted in the death of a female adult.
Upon arrival, officers found a female adult pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle. The Long Beach Fire Department responded, but despite life saving measures, the pedestrian succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
The preliminary investigation revealed a sedan traveling at a high rate of speed southbound on Atlantic Avenue struck a pedestrian in a marked crosswalk. The driver did not stop and immediately fled the area. The suspect vehicle is described as a red-colored sedan with major front-end damage.
The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office will identify the decedent and notify next-of-kin.
