Update: LA County Sheriff’s Motor Deputy Thomas Albanese Killed On-Duty
Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy was killed Thursday in a crash in the Lakewood area, Sheriff Alex Villanueva said.
Villanueva identified the deputy as 41-year-old Thomas Albanese. He joined the department in 2013. The deputy was working at the Lakewood station but is normally wokring a Pico Rivera station.
The crash happened at 9 a.m. at Del Amo and Paramount in Lakewood. The crash appeared to happen in the middle of the intersection and involve at least one other car, a silver Mercedes-Benz sedan.
The motor deputy was allegedly attemping a traffic stop of a speeding truck in the area, The vehicle did not pull over or remain on the scene.
A procession of sheriff deputies escorted his body to the coroner’s office. Some residents saluted the procession as it passed by, Villanueva said.

Albanese is survived by his wife and two sons, ages 7 and 11.
