Dispute leads to Shootout outside of Elementary School

LONG BEACH – A verbal dispute between two males resulted in a shootout this afternoon behind Nieto Herrera Elementary School on 15th and Orizaba Ave.

At approximately 12:01 p.m., Long Beach Police Department officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of Orizaba Avenue regarding an assault with a deadly weapon call.

According to LBPD, preliminary investigation suggests two male adult subjects engaged in a verbal dispute which ended in a shootout between the two. One of the male suspects was struck by the other in the lower body.

Long Beach Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and transported the man who was shoot to a local hospital for his non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. The other suspect was located by officers and is currently detained.

Both firearms were recovered, and no additional injuries were reported. The investigation is ongoing.
