Adult Male Dead following Shooting on Atlantic Avenue

LONG BEACH, CA – On Jan. 30, at approximately 9:26 p.m., officers responded to a report of gunshots near the 500 Block of East Broadway, which resulted in the death of a male adult.

Upon arrival, officers were directed by citizens to an apartment unit in the 200 Block of Atlantic Avenue, where they located a male adult victim inside suffering from multiple gunshots to his upper and lower body. Officers immediately began rendering life-saving aid until Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived and determined the victim deceased at the scene.

Homicide detectives responded to the scene. Through their preliminary investigation, they discovered that a small group of persons was gathered inside the apartment when an argument erupted between the victim and a male adult suspect. The argument escalated when the suspect produced and discharged a firearm multiple times toward the victim, striking him and causing the injuries that ultimately resulted in his death. No other persons were physically injured during the incident. The suspect has only been described as a male adult who fled the apartment on foot immediately after the shooting.

The investigation to determine the motive remains underway. Detectives are actively investigating the relationship between all parties involved, including the victim, suspect, the other persons gathered at the apartment, and the apartment itself, to determine their role in the incident.

The Department of the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner will work to positively identify the victim and notify the next of kin. At this time, the victim is only being identified as an adult male in his forties.
