Vehicle vs. Bicyclist Traffic Collision Results in the Death of a Male Adult

UPDATE: The deceased has been identified by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office as 32-year-old Gabriel Falcon of Long Beach.

LONG BEACH, CA – On May 21, 2022, at approximately 12:15 a.m., officers responded to the area of Anaheim Street and Coronado Avenue regarding an injury traffic collision between a vehicle and a bicyclist, which resulted in the death of a male adult.

Upon arrival, officers located an unconscious male adult bicyclist on the roadway suffering from critical injuries resulting from a traffic collision. Officers began rendering aid until personnel from the Long Beach Fire Department arrived and ultimately determined the bicyclist deceased at the scene.

The preliminary investigation revealed a 2009 Toyota Corolla driven by an adult resident of the City of Glendale was traveling westbound on Anaheim Street when they struck the bicyclist, who was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of Anaheim Street.

The driver, who had a valid driver’s license, remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. At this time, neither distracted driving, impaired driving, nor speed are believed to be factors in the collision.

The bicyclist is only being identified as a 32-year-old male resident of Long Beach. His identity is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin, which will be conducted by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.
