Traffic Alert: Truckers Protest on 710 Freeway

TRAFFIC ALERT: A protest is currently in progress on the 710 Freeway. All southbound lanes are being blocked by truck drivers protesting Assembly Bill 5 (AB5), popularly known as the “Gig Worker Bill”.

The original bill, which was signed into legislation by Governor Gavin Newson back in September of 2019, forces companies such as Uber and Lyft, and as of June 30 trucking companies, to classify most independent contractors as employees.

Drivers are protesting for various reasons including the loss of flexibility with their hours and an inability to make extra money independently.

CHP has responded to the freeway and is working to clear the protesters. Please look for alternative routes and avoid the area if you can.
