Long Beach Animal Care Services Joins NBCUniversal Local’s ‘Clear the Shelters’
Pet Adoption and Donation Campaign This August
Long Beach, CA – Long BeachAnimal Care Services (LBACS) has joined NBCUniversal Local’s 2022 Clear The Shelters pet adoption and donation campaign, taking place through Aug. 31, 2022, holding adoption specials throughout the month and encouraging residents to get involved.
“Events like this offer an opportunity for our community to support animal welfare by adopting, fostering or making a donation,” said Mayor Robert Garcia. “We are proud to partner with NBCUniversal and participate in this important campaign.”
To encourage the responsible, mindful adoption of animals in need of a home, LBACS is offering adoption specials including $25 adoption fees for adult animals 7 months and older and no adoption fees for long-term-stay animals (over 90 days) and bunnies. Those interested in adopting can visit LBACS (7700 E. Spring St.) Wednesdays through Sundays, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Potential adopters can also search for adoptable pets in the shelter by breed, gender and size, then apply online. Residents can also get involved by making a monetary donation, fostering, volunteering, donating supplies, and spreading the word about adoptable animals on social media at Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.
“Clear The Shelters is not just about emptying the shelters. It is about how animals make us feel better and how their companionship improves our lives. Many people feel like they are missing a piece within themselves, but doesn’t everybody deserve to unlock that extra layer of compassion by building a special bond with their pet? That is what you can get by adopting a shelter animal and saving a life,” said Staycee Dains, Director of Long Beach Animal Care Services.
This is the eighth consecutive year NBC and Telemundo-owned stations are partnering with affiliate stations, animal shelters and rescues to promote pet adoption and help raise funds to support animal welfare. Since its inception in 2015, Clear The Shelters has helped more than 700,000 pets find new homes.
“We are pleased to present our eighth annual Clear The Shelters campaign to help shelters and rescues across the nation with their critical work of finding loving homes for the animals under their care and inviting communities to donate funds to support their work,” said Valari Staab, Chairman of NBCUniversal Local.
LBACS is closed Mondays, Tuesdays and holidays. For more information, visit longbeach.gov/acs.

About Clear The Shelters
Clear The Shelters™ / Desocupar Los Albergues® is an annual, nationwide pet adoption campaign spearheaded by NBCUniversal Local, a division of NBCUniversal. Every year, NBCUniversal Local’s NBC and Telemundo-owned stations, plus affiliated stations, partner with animal shelters and rescues in their communities to host Clear The Shelters events. NBCUniversal Local’s Clear The Shelters campaign was inspired by a 2014 North Texas pet adoption event hosted by NBC 5 / KXAS and Telemundo 39 / KXTX and dozens of area shelters that resulted in the most adopted pets in one day for North Texas. Since 2015, NBCUniversal Local’s Clear The Shelters pet adoption campaign has resulted in more than 700,000 pets finding new homes.
