LBLN Weekend Round-up

Don’t have any plans this weekend? Long Beach Local News has compiled a list of events to keep you busy.

FRIDAY

The World Ballet Series is putting on the famous ballet Swan Lake. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the show begins at 7 p.m. The show is two hours and 30 minutes with a 20-minute intermission. Tickets begin at $40. Terrace Theatre is at 300 E. Ocean Blvd. 

Pie and Wine Tasting will give attendees the opportunity to taste four different pies with four wines. Fun fact: the wines are from women-owned wineries in Europe. This event is aged 21+. Tickets are $35. The tasting is from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. The Pie Bar is located at 450 Pine Ave. 

SATURDAY

The Aquarium’s Moompetam American Indian Festival is back for its 18th year. The two-day event celebrates various indigenous California maritime cultures. For more information on the festival, visit our article here. 

Beach Streets University is returning after a two year hiatus. Street closures include Atherton St. Bellflower Blvd, Los Coyotes and Spring St. from 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Hubs include live music, skate boarding, and kid-friendly entertainment. For more information, visit their Facebook here. 

To celebrate National Baech Clean-up Day, there will be a clean-up from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m at Rosie’s Dog Beach. All guidelines of the beach must be followed. You can find a list of those guidelines here and a list of other beach clean-ups here. 

The inaugural Operation College Extravaganza event will be held at CSU Long Beach from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is open to all Long Beach students and families. There will be workshops, a resource fair, entertainment, and food and drinks. There are limited spaces – be sure to RSVP.

Family Fun Festival at 2nd and PCH is back from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. This free event will have more than 35 local makers, kid-friendly activities, and live music. The 2nd and PCH shopping center is located at 6400 E. PCH. 

Long Beach Animal Care Services, Little Lions, and District 8 are teaming up to host a Free Pet Wellness Event at Scherer Park. There will be spay and neutering services available for cats only, vaccinations, microchipping, and flea treatments – all by appointment only. A pet pantry and other resources will be available. The Adoption Waggin will be on site with adoptable animals and licensing information. Scherer Park is at 4600 Long Beach Blvd and the event goes from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

SUNDAY

September is Hispanic Heritage month and to celebrate, a Free Hispanic Heritage Sunday Roller Disco will be at Junipero Beach from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Attendees can reserve rental skates in sizes 3 to 16 in advance. Skaters under the age of 18 need to have a parental waiver signed. 

If you want to participate in a Hispanic Heritage event but roller skating isn’t your cup of tea, a Minnie Mouse Meet and Greet will be at 4647 Long Beach Blvd. There will also be open mic karaoke and face painting for kids. Tickets are $15. The meet and greet is from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.
