Long Beach firefighters battle overnight strip mall fire
Early this morning Long Beach Fire Department responded to a large commercial fire in a vacant strip mall that was undergoing renovations. The fire occurred near the intersection of Anaheim Street and Olive Avenue.
Defensive fire operations were used to extinguish the fire due to the significant fire progression and wind conditions encountered during the incident.
The fire required multiple resources and eventually ended up as a 4th alarm. This caused a significant drawdown of fire resources in Long Beach. Mutual aid was requested and received by Los Angeles County Fire Department to backfill our fire stations and provide additional resources at the scene of the fire.
Resources remain onscene as they conduct salvage and overhaul operations.
Long Beach Police Department assisted with street closures and encouraged nearby residents to shelter “in-place” to address any life safety concerns.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. There were no reports of any injuries to firefighters.
