Man Riding Electric Scooter Fatally Struck by Vehicle
Long Beach, CA – Collision Investigation detectives are currently investigating a tragic traffic collision that transpired on May 4, 2024, resulting in the fatality of a male adult.
The incident unfolded around 6:27 a.m. Saturday morning when law enforcement officers responded to reports of a collision at the intersection of Ximeno Avenue and Shaw Street involving a vehicle and an electric scooter.
When LBPD arrived at the scene, officers discovered a male adult suffering from upper body injuries. Immediate life-saving measures were initiated by the officers until Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived to take over medical assistance. Despite efforts, the scooter operator was rushed to a nearby hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Preliminary investigations indicate that a female adult driving a Ford C-Max was traveling south on Ximeno Avenue near Shaw Street when the collision occurred with the male adult riding the electric scooter. Detectives suspect that the scooter operator failed to stop at the stop sign.
The driver of the vehicle remained present at the scene and extended full cooperation with the ongoing investigation. Factors such as speed, distracted driving, and impaired driving have been ruled out as contributors to the collision.
The identity of the deceased individual is being withheld pending notification of their next of kin by the Los Angeles County Department of the Medical Examiner.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.
