One Injured After Explosion Destroys House in Long Beach

A house in Long Beach was completely destroyed in an explosion Monday morning, leaving one person injured and causing damage to a nearby structure.

The explosion occurred shortly after 11 a.m. at a residence on the 2800 block of Gale Avenue, according to the Long Beach Police Department. Authorities believe the blast was “likely related to a gas leak from an appliance.” The explosion demolished an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) back house on the property, while a front structure sustained minor damage.

A man in his 30s was rescued from the debris and transported to a trauma burn center. His current condition is unknown. The injured man’s family is believed to live next door to the site of the explosion.

Firefighters quickly extinguished a small fire sparked by the blast, and inspectors are continuing to investigate the cause. The back house, classified as an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU), was deemed a total loss, according to the fire department.

The area streets around Gale Avenue and West 28th Street remains closed as the investigation continues.
