Long Beach Fire battled a large trash and brush fire in Long Beach Monday morning that sent thick black smoke into the sky, visible for miles across the area.
The fire was reported around 9:40 a.m. along the Los Angeles River between Pacific Coast Highway and Anaheim Street. The fire started near a large homeless encampment along the river, where several fires have been reported in recent weeks.
