LONG BEACH, Calif. — A large police investigation is underway following a reported officer-involved shooting Sunday afternoon near Orange Avenue and Bixby Road at about 1:30pm.
According to initial dispatch traffic, an off-duty Long Beach police officer was reportedly the victim of an attempted armed robbery involving three male suspects before the shooting occurred.
The suspects allegedly fled in a black Mercedes SUV with paper license plates. The vehicle was reportedly struck by gunfire, shattering the rear window, and was last seen traveling southbound on Orange Avenue.
Officers are searching the area near Pacific Coast Highway and Orange Avenue, reviewing surveillance cameras, requesting helicopter assistance, and checking transit bus cameras for the suspect vehicle.
