A pedestrian has died after being struck by a Long Beach Transit bus in downtown Long Beach, adding to what has been a troubling stretch of fatal traffic incidents across the city, including several recent hit-and-run deaths.
According to the Long Beach Police Department, the collision occurred on July 21, 2026, at approximately 1:05 p.m. in the 400 block of Golden Shore. Officers responded to reports of an injury traffic collision involving a Long Beach Transit bus and a male pedestrian.
When officers arrived, they found the pedestrian in the roadway suffering from upper-body injuries. Good Samaritans provided aid until Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived. The victim was transported to a local hospital in critical condition, where he later died from his injuries on July 23.
Preliminary investigators determined the Long Beach Transit bus was making a left turn onto an access road when it struck the pedestrian, who was crossing the street. The bus driver immediately stopped and cooperated with investigators.
Police said speed, distracted driving, and impaired driving are not believed to have been factors in the collision.
The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner.
