A man was shot and killed early Friday morning in Long Beach, marking another deadly act of gun violence as residents continue to voice concerns about crime across the city. The new proposed city budget for 2027 is also a major concern for the city.
According to the Long Beach Police Department, officers responded at about 12:59 a.m. on July 31 to the 700 block of Magnolia Avenue after reports of a shooting. They found an adult man suffering from a gunshot wound and immediately began lifesaving efforts. Long Beach Fire Department personnel later pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
Police said the suspect or suspects fled before officers arrived. Homicide detectives are investigating the shooting, and the motive remains unknown.
The homicide comes during another violent week in Long Beach. On Wednesday, a 13-year-old was shot, and on Thursday, another stabbing was reported. Those incidents have added to growing concerns from residents, who say the city continues to see too many shootings, stabbings, and murders.
Many residents are questioning whether city leaders are doing enough to address violent crime, saying they want stronger action to improve public safety and prevent more tragedies.
