Vehicles Catch Fire in Parking Garage at Long Beac Vehicles Catch Fire in Parking Garage at Long Beach Apartment Building, Two Cats Rescued Long Beach firefighters quickly contained multiple vehicles on fire at an apartment complex Monday afternoon, preventing flames from spreading into residential units and rescuing two cats from a smoke-filled apartment. The fire was reported at approximately 2:00 p.m. at 6700 Atlantic Ave. When crews arrived, they found several vehicles burning inside the parking garage of a multi-story residential building. Firefighters took an aggressive attack on the fire, successfully stopping the flames from spreading into the apartments above. Although the fire was contained to the vehicles, heavy smoke traveled throughout parts of the building. As firefighters searched the building for possible fire extension and helped residents evacuate, they rescued two cats from a smoke-filled apartment. The pets were later safely reunited with their owner. About 35 firefighters responded to the incident. No injuries to residents or firefighters were reported. According to the preliminary investigation, the victim became involved in a physical altercation with another adult male, which escalated when the suspect stabbed him. The suspect remains under investigation. The violence continued into Tuesday morning. At approximately 4:18 a.m., officers responded to the 4600 block of East Goldfield Avenue regarding a shooting. Police located an adult male suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the upper body. Investigators say the victim confronted a group of suspects who were allegedly attempting to steal a catalytic converter from a vehicle. Police said the off-duty officer fired shots at the suspects during the robbery. It is unknown if any of the suspects were struck by the gunfire. All of the suspects fled the scene before officers arrived. The off-duty officer was not injured. The investigation remains ongoing, and no additional information has been released.

Fireworks barges will be near the Queen Mary, Junipero Beach (Cherry Avenue) and Granada Beach (Bay Shore Avenue). The displays are expected to be visible from much of the shoreline. Popular free viewing locations include Bixby Park, Bluff Park, Shoreline Aquatic Park, Junipero Beach, Granada Beach and the area near Rosie’s Dog Beach. Spectators are encouraged to arrive early and bring chairs or blankets. For a premium experience, the Queen Mary will host its annual Fourth of July celebration from 3 to 10 p.m. aboard the historic ship at 1126 Queens Highway.
