Hung Family Supports New Advanced 3T MRI at @memor Hung Family Supports New Advanced 3T MRI at @memorialcare Long Beach Medical Center MemorialCare Imaging Center at Long Beach Medical Center has added a new 3-Tesla (3T) MRI system, made possible by a donation from Hing and Doris Hung and the Hung family. MemorialCare says the hospital is now the only facility in the greater Long Beach area offering 3T MRI technology. The system provides clearer, higher-resolution images that can help doctors identify small changes in nerves, ligaments, blood vessels and other tissues that may be harder to see with traditional MRI. The technology supports specialties including neurology, stroke care, orthopedics, sports medicine, cancer care, heart and vascular care, and select pediatric imaging. Patients may also benefit from faster scan times, less noise and a wider table designed to provide more space during exams. The Hung family has previously supported MemorialCare’s Heart & Vascular Institute, including a gift that helped advance a hybrid cardiovascular operating suite. MemorialCare officials said the new MRI expands access to advanced diagnostic care and gives physicians more detailed information to help diagnose conditions and guide treatment. A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new MRI was held in August at Long Beach Medical Center.

They include the Lincoln Parking Garage, the Broadway Parking Garage beneath the Long Beach Public Library, and the Silverado Park swimming pool facility. The properties would be leased to the Finance Authority of Long Beach and then leased back to the city. The city would make payments using money from its General Fund, which also pays for police, fire, parks, libraries and other city services. The city says the financing will provide a public benefit. The fire was reported at approximately 2:00 p.m. at 6700 Atlantic Ave. When crews arrived, they found several vehicles burning inside the parking garage of a multi-story residential building. Firefighters took an aggressive attack on the fire, successfully stopping the flames from spreading into the apartments above. Although the fire was contained to the vehicles, heavy smoke traveled throughout parts of the building. As firefighters searched the building for possible fire extension and helped residents evacuate, they rescued two cats from a smoke-filled apartment. The pets were later safely reunited with their owner. About 35 firefighters responded to the incident. No injuries to residents or firefighters were reported. Officers responded to reports of an injury traffic collision involving a Long Beach Transit bus and a male pedestrian. When officers arrived, they found the pedestrian in the roadway suffering from upper-body injuries. Good Samaritans provided aid until Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived. The victim was transported to a local hospital in critical condition, where he later died. Preliminary investigators determined the Long Beach Transit bus was making a left turn onto an access road when it struck the pedestrian, who was crossing the street. The bus driver immediately stopped and cooperated with investigators. Police said speed, distracted driving, and impaired driving are not believed to have been factors in the collision. About an hour later, at approximately 11:26 p.m., officers responded to the 1900 block of East Del Amo Boulevard after reports of a stabbing. Officers found an adult male suffering from non-life-threatening stab wounds to the upper body. Long Beach Fire Department personnel transported him to a local hospital. According to the preliminary investigation, the victim became involved in a physical altercation with another adult male, which escalated when the suspect stabbed him. The suspect remains under investigation. The violence continued into Tuesday morning. At approximately 4:18 a.m., officers responded to the 4600 block of East Goldfield Avenue regarding a shooting. Police located an adult male suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the upper body. Investigators say the victim confronted a group of suspects who were allegedly attempting to steal a catalytic converter from a vehicle. During the confrontation, one of the suspects reportedly shot the victim before fleeing. The victim was transported to a local hospital, and investigators are continuing to search for the suspects. Detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The night ended with a deadly traffic collision in the area of Loynes Drive and Studebaker Road. According to the preliminary investigation, a vehicle crossed over a median before plunging into the water beneath a bridge. A female passenger was rescued from the submerged vehicle, while the male driver was pulled from the water and transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries. Police contacted an adult male suspect in what is being investigated as a negligent discharge of a firearm. The officer fired shots at the suspects, who fled the area. Detectives now believe three suspects were involved. According to the Long Beach Police Department, the incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. near Orange Avenue and Bixby Road when an off-duty LBPD officer was approached by a male suspect who pointed what is believed to be a firearm at him while another suspect robbed him. Police said the off-duty officer fired shots at the suspects during the robbery. It is unknown if any of the suspects were struck by the gunfire. All of the suspects fled the scene before officers arrived. The off-duty officer was not injured. The investigation remains ongoing, and no additional information has been released.

The suspects allegedly fled in a black Mercedes SUV with paper license plates. The vehicle was reportedly struck by gunfire, shattering the rear window, and was last seen traveling southbound on Orange Avenue. Officers are searching the area near Pacific Coast Highway and Orange Avenue, reviewing surveillance cameras, requesting helicopter assistance, and checking transit bus cameras for the suspect vehicle.
