Two separate traffic collisions in Long Beach on Saturday resulted in the deaths of a male adult and a female adult, according to police.
At about 2:40 p.m., officers responded to the 6900 block of Atlantic Avenue for a multi-vehicle collision. Police said a 2019 Volvo driven by 38-year-old Adalberto Delgado-Perez of Compton was traveling northbound at a high rate of speed when it struck a 2004 Chevrolet turning onto Atlantic Place. The Volvo then hit two occupied vehicles waiting at the intersection.
The Chevrolet overturned, and a female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. The male driver was taken to a hospital. The occupants of the other vehicles, two women and two children, were not injured.
Delgado-Perez initially fled but returned shortly afterward and was arrested. He was booked on suspicion of hit-and-run resulting in death or injury, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and DUI causing bodily injury. Bail was set at $100,000. Police said speed and impaired driving appear to be contributing factors.
Later that night, at about 10:35 p.m., officers responded to the 5700 block of Pacific Coast Highway for another injury collision. Police said a westbound vehicle struck another vehicle exiting a shopping center. A male adult was taken to a hospital, where he later died. Two adult women were also hospitalized.
