Long Beach Triple Shooting Leads to Officer-Involved Shooting on 710

Long Beach Police Department is investigating a shooting involving multiple victims that led to a vehicle pursuit and an officer-involved shooting with a suspect firing an AK-47 with drum magazine early Tuesday morning.

At about 12:24 a.m. Sept. 1, officers responded to the 200 block of Aquarium Way regarding a reported shooting. Officers found three adult men suffering from injuries. Two victims were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while a third was treated at the scene.

Officers quickly identified a possible suspect and vehicle. The vehicle was later located near Burnett Street and Pacific Avenue. When officers attempted to stop the suspect, he failed to pull over, leading to a pursuit.

During the pursuit, while traveling northbound on the 710 Freeway, police said the suspect fired shots toward officers, prompting an officer-involved shooting.

The pursuit ended when the suspect vehicle crashed into a pole in Los Angeles. The suspect was taken into custody following the use of a 40mm less-lethal weapon.

Police said the suspect was not struck by officers’ gunfire. He was transported to a hospital for injuries sustained in the crash.

No officers were injured. An AK-47 firearm was recovered.

The circumstances and motive behind the initial shooting remain under investigation.
