The Long Beach Police Department will conduct a DUI and Driver License checkpoint Friday, August 14, from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. in the East Division area.
Police say checkpoint locations are chosen based on data identifying areas with impaired-driving crashes. The goal is to remove impaired drivers, deter unlicensed motorists, and raise awareness about the dangers of impaired driving.
LBPD reminds the public that impairment is not limited to alcohol. Prescription and over-the-counter medications can affect driving ability. While marijuana is legal in California, driving under its influence is not.
Police urge anyone planning to drink or use impairing substances to arrange a sober ride or use alternative transportation.
